Tier: mid-range. A good first kit for solo hikers who cook real meals.
The Trail Lite Solo pairs a roomy 1.3 L nonstick pot with a bowl and an insulated mug. That suits someone who cooks dinner in camp rather than just adding boiling water.
What's in it (MSR)
- A 1.3 L hard-anodized aluminum pot with a durable nonstick coating that's PFOA- and PTFE-free
- A polypropylene DeepDish bowl, safe for hot and cold foods
- A double-wall insulated mug
- All BPA-free and nesting inside the pot. The mug can hold MSR folding utensils or even a PocketRocket stove.
Why 1.3 L? It has room to cook pasta, rice or a big batch of ramen with extra water, which is more than most solo boil-only pots allow. Aluminum also spreads heat better than titanium, so meals scorch less.
The trade-offs: it's bigger and heavier than a 900 ml titanium pot. Nonstick coatings need care, so use soft utensils and never scrape them with metal. Stock showed as limited on Amazon when we checked.
Pairs with: the MSR PocketRocket 2 or SOTO Amicus.
Similar: the GSI Halulite Soloist is lighter and includes a spork.
