Tier: premium. An ultralight semi-freestanding tent.
The Hornet is NEMO's answer to the question of how little tent two people can get away with. The OSMO version lists a minimum weight of 2 lb 1 oz (948 g) and a packed weight of 2 lb 8 oz (1.14 kg) for the 2P.
Specs from the listing
- Floor: 85 x 51/43 in (tapered), with a 39 in peak height
- Doors and vestibules: 2 and 2
- Fabric: OSMO poly-nylon ripstop on the fly (1,200 mm) and floor (1,500 mm), made from recycled yarns and PFAS-free. NEMO says it repels water four times better and stretches three times less when wet.
- Inner: 15D nylon ripstop and no-see-um mesh
- Poles: DAC Featherlite aluminum with short segments, and a Divvy Cube stuff sack so two people can split the load
- Livability: Flybar volumizing clip, volumizing guy-outs, Gatekeeper door tiebacks and a Nightlight pocket
What "semi-freestanding" means
The poles hold the head end up on their own, but you must stake the foot to pitch it. On granite slabs or sand, plan to use rocks or deadman anchors.
Honest feedback on size
Plenty of Amazon reviewers say the 2P feels more like a roomy one-person tent, and that two standard pads are a squeeze because of the tapered floor. Couples who want a generous tent should compare it with the MSR Hubba Hubba LT, which has a rectangular floor. A few reviewers also report zipper snags, so treat the zippers gently.
Who it's for
Solo hikers who want room to spread out, and close partners who prioritize weight above everything else.
