Platypus built the QuickDraw for people who want to change their minds about their water setup without buying new gear. Squeeze it into a bottle at lunch, hang it as a gravity filter at camp, or connect it to a bladder's drink tube to top off your pack. One filter does all three.
Tier: mid-range.
Why people pick it
- Fast flow. Platypus lists 3 L/min when squeezed and 1.75 L/min in gravity mode.
- Wide-mouth 2L dirty bag. It has a handle, so scooping from shallow pools is easier than with a narrow pouch.
- ConnectCap and hose. These connect to CPC-style fittings such as the Platypus Big Zip EVO and most HydraPak reservoirs. The filter also threads onto 28 mm bottles.
- Field cleaning. Shake it or backflush it, no tools needed.
- Weight. The whole system is about 5.7 oz (161 g), and it's made in the USA.
What it removes: the hollow-fiber filter is tested to the NSF/EPA P231 protocol for 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.9% of protozoa. It doesn't treat viruses.
What to watch: like every hollow-fiber filter, it shouldn't freeze. The extra fittings also add a little complexity compared with a simple screw-on filter like the Sawyer Squeeze.
Who it's for: couples and small groups who like a gravity setup in camp but still want a fast squeeze filter on the move. If you'll be filtering for four or more people, the Platypus GravityWorks 4L is the bigger option.
