The Zip is Jetboil's simplest system, and in the lineup it's usually the easiest on the wallet. You get the same lock-on cup design and the same fast-boil focus as the Flash. The trade-offs are a smaller cup and no built-in igniter.
Tier: the budget pick of the Jetboil systems. A good beginner choice for solo hikers.
Specs (2025 Zip 0.8L, per Jetboil and the listing)
- Weight: about 12 oz (340 g)
- Boil time: 2 minutes for 16 oz of water, per Jetboil's listing
- Cup: 0.8 L FluxRing cup with insulated cozy. The bottom cup doubles as a measuring cup or bowl.
- Ignition: Easy-Turn knob. You light it with a match or lighter.
- Packing: the stove parts and a 100 g JetPower can nest inside the cup
The honest pitch
0.8 L is plenty for one person heating water for a pouch meal plus a hot drink. Leaving out the igniter saves cost and removes a part that can fail, but you must remember to carry a lighter. (Carry two. One is easy to lose.)
Who should skip it
- Pairs cooking together: the cup is small for two meals at once. Look at the Flash.
- Anyone who wants to simmer: go for the MiniMo.
- Ounce-counters: the Stash is far lighter.
