If your trail kitchen is just boiling water for freeze-dried dinners and morning coffee, the Flash is the Jetboil most people mean when they say "a Jetboil." It's built for one job: getting two cups of water to a boil fast, with as little fiddling as possible.
Tier: mid-to-premium. A friendly first integrated stove if you mostly eat pouch meals.
Jetboil's specs (2025 version, Ocean Topo)
- System weight: 13.1 oz (371 g), not counting the 0.9 oz fuel stabilizer
- Boil time: 120 seconds per 0.5 L, per Jetboil (averaged over the life of a JetPower can)
- Cup: 1.0 L tall FluxRing cup with an insulating cozy and color-change heat indicator
- Ignition: turn-and-click rotary igniter
- Fuel efficiency: about 10 L boiled per 100 g JetPower can, per Jetboil
- Output: 5,300 BTU/h
- Included: burner, cup with cozy, lid with pour spout and strainer, bottom cup, fuel stabilizer. Fuel is sold separately.
Why people pick it
The burner and cup lock together, so you're not balancing a pot on pot supports. That makes it steadier on uneven ground, and the heat-exchanger ring on the cup bottom wastes less heat in a breeze than an open burner. Everything, including a 100 g canister, nests inside the cup. The turn-and-click igniter means you don't need to dig out a lighter, though you should still carry one in case the igniter fails.
Where it falls short
- It's a boiler, not a cooking stove. There's no fuel regulator and the flame is tuned for speed. Simmering is hard. If you want to cook real meals, look at the MiniMo.
- The tall, narrow cup is great for pouring but awkward to eat from.
- It's heavier than a bare stove plus titanium mug. Weight-focused hikers often prefer the Stash or a minimal canister stove.
Alternatives
- Want the coffee press included? The Flash Java is the same idea with a press in the box.
- On a tighter budget, the Zip gives you a smaller 0.8 L cup and lights with a match or lighter.
- For the bigger picture, our canister stove vs Jetboil guide compares integrated systems with ultralight burners.
